 Access and Entry

 
    • I want to get into a specific residence hall. Who do I talk to?
      Georgia Tech Housing controls access to all campus residences halls. There is the central office, located in the Smithgall Student Services Building, the North Avenue Housing Office, and east and west campus Housing Offices. You may email Georgia Tech Housing at information@housing.gatech.edu or call one of the Housing Offices. Contact information is located here:  http://housing.gatech.edu
    • My BuzzCard won't let me in or I have lost my BuzzCard. How do I get into my Residence Hall?
      The satellite housing offices are open 24 hours a day and can assist your entrance into your residence hall after hours. If your BuzzCard does not work or you have lost it, please come by the BuzzCard Center so we may research the issue.
    • I do not know my gtID PIN, yet when I click on the "Forgot PIN" button, is receive the message: "Authorization Failure - Security Question is not setup". How can I acquire, or reset, my PIN?
      To reset your PIN you must contact the Office of Information Technology (O.I.T.) Help Desk at 404-894-7173. BuzzCard cannot assist you in resetting your PIN.
    • How do I get the 6 numbers off the back of my BuzzCard so I can reset my PIN.
      Per the user agreement that you signed when you got your BuzzCard, we are unable to give out account information via email or by telephone. To reset your PIN you must contact the Office of Information Technology (O.I.T.) Help Desk at 404-894-7173. BuzzCard cannot assist you in resetting your PIN.
    • What do I do if my BuzzCard doesn't open the parking gate?
      Parking and Transportation controls access to parking areas around campus. You may contact them at 404-385-PARK (7275).
    • Why do I get Exceeded Maximum Card Usage at Parking Lots when I try to use my BuzzCard?
      The pay to park machines are owned and operated by Parking and Transportation. There is a setting in the machine that limits each type of payment. Only Parking and Transportation can reset the meter for the lot. Please contact Parking and Transportation at 404-385-PARK (7275).
    • If I have a replacement BuzzCard produced today, when will my BuzzCard work to access academic or administrative buildings?
      A replacement BuzzCard requires an account number change. This account number change will automatically be communicated overnight and your BuzzCard will be functional by the following morning at 6:00 a.m. Please note: The BuzzCard Center does not control academic door access/entry. All questions related to door access/entry should be directed to the individual Building Security Administrators.
    • Why doesn't my BuzzCard work for accessing buildings after-hours?
      After-hours access to any campus building is governed by the individual Building Security Administrator(s). The BuzzCard Center has no control over granting or removing access to any campus academic building. Please contact the Building Security Administrator for the building(s) you wish after-hours access.
    • Why can I no longer access buildings after I have changed my BuzzCard?
      The BuzzCard Center updates card information each evening so that door access privileges can be updated. Problems with door access should be addressed by sending an email to support@buzzcard.gatech.edu.
 

 BuzzCard Debit Account

 
    • If I purchase the Faculty Staff 200 meal plan, can I use it at Tech Square?
      BuzzCard account funds and Dining Dollars are separate accounts. Dining Dollars are usable only at Georgia Tech Dining locations. BuzzCard Account funds are usable at over 200 locations on campus, including Tech Square merchants and all Georgia Tech Dining locations.
    • Does BuzzCard Accept Bitcoin?
      BuzzCard no longer accepts Bitcoin for deposits.
    • Do my BuzzCard Account Funds expire at the end of the semester?
      No. Your BuzzCard account funds remain in your account until you graduate or leave Georgia Tech.
    • If I make a deposit at the Bursar's Office, when will my funds be available for use?
      The Bursar's Office does not accept BuzzCard Deposits. Please use the online website, a Value Transfer Station, or call 404-894-2899.
    • Does the Bursar accept BuzzCard for payments?
      The Bursar's Office does not accept the BuzzCard for any form of payment for services including, but not limited to: tuition, fees, housing, parking, or dining services. Money deposited to your BuzzCard account cannot be transferred to the Bursar's Office and will be refunded only upon graduation or leaving the Institute.
    • Where can I make deposits to my BuzzCard account?
      Deposits can be made during normal business hours at the BuzzCard Center.
      • Cash deposits may be made at any BuzzCard ATM on campus (Student Center, Student Center Commons, Campus Recreation Center Lobby, Library 1st Floor East, Westside Market, North Avenue Apartments North laundry room, Graduate Living Center laundry room, Clough Commons, and Barnes and Noble @ Georgia Tech).
      • Deposits may also be made via the web from the main BuzzCard Center Web site via the MANAGE MY BUZZCARD link.
      • Faculty & Staff may use payroll deduction. See http://techworks.gatech.edu.
    • Where can I get my BuzzCard Account Balance?

      Account holders may check their card balance online any time by connecting to the MANAGE MY BUZZCARD link available from the BuzzCard web site. From the eAccount module you can check your balance, obtain monthly statements, view account activity for the last thirty days, and suspend your card if it is lost or stolen. Other ways to check your balance are:

      • When you make a purchase with your BuzzCard — the balance is printed at the bottom of each receipt;
      • When you purchase a drink or snack from a vending machine, the balance is flashed on the card reader display; and 
      • You can get your balance printed at any BuzzCard Value Transfer Station. Also, you can get your balance by stopping by the BuzzCard Center.
    • What happens if someone uses my stolen BuzzCard?
      The BuzzCard Account Disclosure of Terms and Conditions states that: The Institute complies with the requirements of Federal Truth in Lending Law. If a Card is lost or stolen, the Cardholder is responsible for no more than $50 in unauthorized Account purchases, provided the Card is reported as lost or stolen to the BuzzCard Center or the Georgia Tech Police Department within two calendar days of the loss or theft. Once the Card is reported as lost or stolen, the Card (and its associated Account) will be deactivated and the Cardholder is not responsible for any subsequent card purchases. Should the Cardholder notify the BuzzCard Center or the Georgia Tech Police Department after two days of the loss but within sixty (60) days after the issuance of an Account Activity Statement containing the unauthorized purchase(s), the Cardholder is responsible for no more than $500 in unauthorized Account purchases. If the Cardholder fails to notify the BuzzCard Center of an unauthorized Card purchase within sixty (60) days after an Account Activity Statement containing such purchase has been issued, then the Cardholder limit of liability does not apply.     • What security measures are used to protect my online credit card transactions?
      Account management transactions on BuzzCardNET take place on a secure server utilizing the same widely proven techniques used by established online banking institutions. These techniques include the Secured Socket Layer (SSL) protocol and Digital Certificate Authentication via VeriSign. BuzzCard credit card transactions via the web are PCI compliant.
    • Do all campus laundry machines take the BuzzCard for payment?
      Yes. A special BuzzCard reader (with operational instructions) is located in each of the campus laundry facilities. You must have funds available in your BuzzCard Debit Account to use the laundry facilities. The machines do not accept cash or coins
 

 BuzzCard Equipment Reservations

 
    • How do I reserve BuzzCard Readers?
      Student organizations and Campus Departments may reserve BuzzCard readers by completing the BuzzCard Equipment Reservation Form. If your event spans the last day and first day of the month, separate forms are required.
    • What happens if I lose or break BuzzCard Equipment?
      The user accepts responsibility for all damage or loss of BuzzCard equipment.
    • I sent in a form but I was told no readers were available. Why?
      All equipment is reserved on a first come/first serve basis.
    • How many days in advance do I have to reserve a BuzzCard reader?
      Reservations must be made three (3) business days prior to the event.
    • When is the equipment I reserved due back?
      Equipment must be returned within 24 hours or 10:00 a.m. Monday if the event falls on a Friday or Weekend.
    • When will we be reimbursed for the event?
      Reimbursements will be made at the end of the business month following equipment rental.
    • Is there a fee to reserve BuzzCard Readers?
      There is a $10 a day per reader rental fee. Readers returned after the due date and time will be assessed additional daily rental fees. Transaction Fees of 3% apply.
 

 Faculty and Staff

 
    • Why doesn't my BuzzCard work for accessing buildings after-hours?
      After-hours access to any campus building is governed by the individual Building Security Manager(s) and the Georgia Tech Police Department. The BuzzCard Center has no control over granting or removing access to any campus building. Please contact the Building Security Administrator for the building(s) you wish after-hours access.
    • How do I arrange meal plans and BuzzCards for special guests or events?
      BuzzCard, and Georgia Tech Dining, can assist you with setting up meal plans for Institute guests that are attending Georgia Tech sponsored events on campus. First,you will need to determine if the event will require access to Georgia Tech facilities that require PROX card access. Second, you will need to determine if you want cash on the BuzzCard or meals per day (meals per day are Dining Halls only). Fill out the Conference Services Meal Plan form that you can find at http://test.buzzcard.gatech.edu/Pages/BuzzCard-Forms.aspx.
    • Why should I use my BuzzCard instead of a credit card
      There are several reasons to carry your BuzzCard instead of a credit card or cash.
      1. Security. BuzzCard can only be used on campus. If it is lost or stolen, there is no liability for purchases made off campus, and you are responsible for only for the first $50 on campus.
      2. Convenience. You already carry it with you everywhere. No need to carry anything extra.
      3. Monthly statements. From the eAccount module you can check your balance, obtain monthly statements, view account activity for the last thirty days, and suspend your card if it is lost or stolen.
    • What is the minimum deposit I can put on my BuzzCard?
      The minimum cash deposit, at any BuzzCard deposit location, is $1.00. Deposits may be made online through this Web site, through payroll deduction, in person at the BuzzCard Center, or at any Value Transfer Station. The minimum credit card deposit is $10.00.
    • I need to request a gtID#. Who do I contact?
      Most likely, it is the same person that processes all Human Resources documents for your department. If you are unsure who that person is, you can search online for your department representive(s) at http://gtid.gatech.edu. Click on Enter the name of your department in the space provided and click the Search button.
    • How can I sign-up for the Faculty Staff Meal Plan?
      Faculty and Staff can sign-up for the Faculty Staff meal plan online at http://techstuff2.gatech.edu/. Payroll deduction is not yet in place for this transaction.
    • How do I sign-up for Payroll Deduction?
      Faculty and Staff can signup for payroll deduction via Techworks. Login at http://techworks.gatech.edu and select Payroll and Compensation Home. Select Voluntary Deductions. Then click on Add Deduction. Click on the magnifying glass to search Kind of Deduction. Select BuzzCard. Complete the form and, if you wish, put a start and end date. Your payroll deduction usually posts to your BuzzCard account 5 - 7 days before payday.
    • How do I change my payroll deduction?
      Logon to Techworks and click on Payroll and Compensation Home. Select Voluntary Deductions and then click EDIT next to BuzzCard payroll deduction.
    • How do I withdraw or get a refund from my account?
      Your BuzzCard Debit Account is designed for campus payment convenience and is not intended to be utilized as a bank account. The BuzzCard Center is not a licensed bank. Faculty/Staff may close their account on demand and receive a refund. Please note, only balances of $35 or greater are refundable.
 

 Getting Your First BuzzCard

 
    • How do I get a BuzzCard for a family member?
      Immediate family members of students, faculty, and staff (spouse and children over eighteen years of age) can obtain a BuzzCard for campus services through the BuzzCard Center. Both spouses/domestic partners need to be present and show proof of marriage or domestic partnership (See OHR for Domestic Partnership Requirements). Children need proof of age. Parents of students, faculty, or staff are not eligible. Family member gtID#s are generated by the BuzzCard Center. The process will take about twenty minutes.
    • How do I get my BuzzCard?
      Students will receive their BuzzCard during Freshman Orientation (FASET). Students must be enrolled and assigned a gtID# by the Registrar before a BuzzCard can be issued. Faculty/Staff will receive their BuzzCard on the first day of employment through the Office of Human Resources.
    • What forms of ID are required to get a BuzzCard?
      Because the BuzzCard is an official State of Georgia Identification Card we require valid, legal forms of ID. The identification submitted must be one of the following:
      • A state issued driver's license or identification card
      • U.S. passport
      • U.S. military ID
      • U.S. Department of State ID Card
      • U.S. Territory ID Card
      Foreign students, faculty, staff, and affiliates must present one of the following:
      • Matricula Consular
      • I-551 Permanent Resident orResident Alien
      • Foreign passport.
     

     gtID# Requests

     
      • When I try to login to the gtID# Request System I get You are not correctly set up to use this application. Please e-mail the address below to set you up.
        You must be setup and approved to use the gtID# Request system. Please download the gtID# Request Users form and fax it to 404-894-2049. gtID# Requestor/Inquirer Setup Form
      • How do I lookup a gtID#?
        You can look up a gtID# at this website: http://gtid.gatech.edu. You will need the first name, last name, and date of birth.
      • I am trying to request a gtID# for a student but the system won't let me.
        Only the registrar can assign students gtID#s. Please contact the Registrar's Office at 404.894.4150 for assistance.
     

     Lost or Stolen BuzzCards

     
      • What if someone fraudulently uses my BuzzCard?
        The Institute complies with the requirements of Federal Truth in Lending Law.       • Can I get a replacement card sent to me through the mail?
        The BuzzCard is an official Georgia State Identification Card and as such, is governed under State of Georgia regulations and Homeland Security. Initial and replacement cards require identity verification which can only be done in person at the BuzzCard Center.
      • Will I have to have my picture retaken when I get a replacement card?
        Yes. In order for us to maintain an up-to-date database, you photo will have to be retaken. Your BuzzCard is an official Georgia State Identification Card and subject to the laws and regulations of the State of Georgia.
      • Oh No! It is the weekend and I have lost my BuzzCard! I can't get into my residence hall! How will I be able to use my meal plan?!

        If you happen to lose your BuzzCard after close of business, you can still access your residence hall and use your meal plan.

        To access your residence hall visit one of the satellite housing offices. Housing satellite offices are open 24 hours a day and can assist your entrance into your residence hall.

        To access your meal plan ask to see the manager/supervisor on duty at your dining hall. The manager/supervisor will take your name and your gtID# and allow you to eat. The meal will be manually deducted from your account when the BuzzCard Center opens.

        Please remember to go online to http://buzzcard.gatech.edu and deactivate your card. Even though you may not have funds on your card, you do have door access privileges and it is safer to deactivate the card, even if you just don't remember where you put it.

        At your first opportunity please come by the BuzzCard Center to get a replacement card.

      • What happens if I need to report my BuzzCard lost or Stolen?
        You may log on to "MANAGE MY BUZZCARD" from the BuzzCard web site and suspend your card. Alternately, the BuzzCard Center (404-894-2899) can also suspend your card. Card suspensions will require a replacement card and may be subject to a lost/stolen replacement fee.
     

     MARTA Passes

     
      • How much do MARTA passes cost?
        Discounted Student Passes are $58.50 and the Faculty/Staff pass is $73.80. Limited to one pass per person.
        During the Fall Semester (August-December 2016), Student MARTA Passes will be sold at a discounted rate of $40.
      • Where do I pick up my MARTA Pass?
        You can pick up a MARTA Pass here at the BuzzCard Center. Passes go on sale during the last 5 business days of the month and can be purchased through the 2nd Friday of the Pass month.
      • Can I pick up my payroll deducted commuter pass at the BuzzCard Center?
        Yes! Faculty/Staff may pick up their payroll deducted GRTA, CCT and GCT commuter passes at the BuzzCard Center! Payroll deducted MARTA Breeze Cards may only be purchased at the Parking and Transportation Office.
      • Do I have to bring cash?
        BuzzCard accepts all major credit cards, cash, and BuzzCard. We cannot accept checks.
      • I have lost my MARTA pass, can I get it replaced?
        Unfortunately, because of the agreement Georgia Tech has with MARTA, lost or stolen passes cannot be replaced. Defective Marta passes can be exchanged at Five Points station.
      • Can my department purchase GT MARTA Passes?
        At this time, the BuzzCard does not issue Marta passes to departments or individuals not classified as students, faculty, or staff. If a department would like to reimburse the individual for this charge they can do so as their departmental policy and funding allows.
      • I am a visitor, can I get a MARTA pass?
        At this time, the BuzzCard does not issue Marta passes to individuals not classified as students, faculty, or staff.
     

     Replacing My BuzzCard

     
      • How do I replace my BuzzCard and is there a charge?
        Replacement BuzzCards can be made during regular operating hours posted on the BuzzCard Web site. The BuzzCard Center will replace, at no charge, any worn and nonfunctioning BuzzCard that exhibits normal wear and tear. The BuzzCard Center will charge for abnormal wear and tear, photograph change, lost, or stolen BuzzCards. If a student, faculty, staff, or affiliate loses their BuzzCard, they can deactivate (turn off) their card online through the MANAGE MY BUZZCARD link on the BuzzCard website.
      • What is normal "wear and tear?"
        The BuzzCard Center will replace, at no charge, any worn and nonfunctioning BuzzCard that exhibits normal wear and tear. The BuzzCard Center will charge for abnormal wear and tear, photograph change, lost, or stolen BuzzCards. No charge will be imposed for the replacement of a Card that ceases to function through normal, daily usage. Characteristics indicating normal usage are a worn magnetic stripe, frayed or peeling plastic overlay, or horizontal breakage/cracking. Characteristics not indicating normal usage are broken edges or corners, obvious damage to the magnetic stripe or or RFID chip resulting from misuse or intentional damage, hole punches, and vertical breakage/cracking. A charge will be imposed for the replacement of a Card not indicating normal usage.
      • My card is showing wear or the hologram is worn off. Do I need to replace it?
        It may not be necessary to replace your card. The hologram is just for decoration and does not affect the operation of the card. If your card appears to be delaminating then you should come to the BuzzCard Center for a replacement. Normal wear and tear replacements are free.
     

     TechStuff eMarketPlace

     
      • How do I reserve space on the TechStuff eMarket?
        Student groups and campus departments can place items on the BuzzCard TechStuff eMarket for sale. Please fill out the TechStuff Reservation Form and submit it ten (10) business days in advance of the event.
      • Can anyone sell items on TechStuff eMarketplace?
        Programs and events must be associated with official Institute business or approved Student Organization activities (attach appropriate documentation). Sales transactions will not be accepted that result in sales tax or unrelated business income tax (UBIT) obligations. Requests are subject to potential review by legal and/or compliance staff.
      • Are there any minimum attendance requirements?
        Yes. Programs may be required to meet minimum participation guidelines.
      • How many days in advance must I submit a listing?
        Listing requests must be made ten (10) business days prior to the event.
      • How are refunds handled?
        Web sales will be advertised as non-refundable except in the event of program cancellation.
      • How do I get reimbursed for my sales?
        Reimbursements will be made at the end of the business month following the month of sales.
      • How much does BuzzCard charge for use of TechStuff eMarketplace?
        An event listing fee of $50 applies. Transaction fees of 5% will be deducted on all transactions, including cancellation refunds.
      • What do we do when the original organizer has left?
        The Department/Organization must promptly provide an updated form to the BuzzCard Center for any accounting, point-of-contact, or program changes.
     

     Withdrawals & Refunds

     
      • Why can't I withdraw money from my BuzzCard Debit Account?
        Your BuzzCard Debit Account is designed for campus payment convenience and is not intended to be utilized as a bank account. The BuzzCard Center is not a licensed bank, and withdrawals prior to graduation or leaving Georgia Tech are not allowed. When you graduate or leave Georgia Tech, you can complete a BuzzCard Account Closure Form to obtain all remaining funds contained in your BuzzCard account. Please note, only balances of $35 or greater are refundable.
        • Is there a fee to process my account refund?
          Yes. The lesser of $35.00 or any remaining account balance will be retained as an account closure fee.
        • I am a student. Can I get my BuzzCard money back?
          Refunds of a balance in excess of $35.00 may be requested by graduating students, employees, affiliates, or visitors leaving the Institute by submitting a BuzzCard Account Closure Form to the BuzzCard Center. In the case of a student, proof of graduation or withdrawal from the Institute is required. Refund requests shall be processed within ten (10) business days. Please allow additional time for postal service delivery.
        • I got money back in my student account. What happened?
          BuzzCard accounts are closed 18 months after students leave the Institute. After 18 months refunds not requested upon account closure will be processed within 15 days of each semester end date. All student refunds are posted as a credit to the Cardholder’s Student Account and disbursed by the Bursar’s Office of the Georgia Institute of Technology according to regularly scheduled refund procedures.
        • As an employee, what happens when I request a BuzzCard Account refund?
          All non-student refunds (employees and visitors) will be issued by direct-deposit or by check to the last known address of record. If your bank account has changed, please let the BuzzCard Center know. Please allow additional time for postal service delivery.
        • Why didn't I get the full amount back?
          Upon Account closure, any balance in the BuzzCard Account remaining after the $35 closure fee will first be applied to any debt the Cardholder owes the Institute. Any balance in the Account less applicable fees and debts owed to the Institute will be returned to Cardholder.
